VR Post-Production Workflows with Nuke

Virtual reality presents the next big challenge in content creation.

At The Foundry, we are focused on helping artists create immersive live-action content.

Building on NUKE’s powerful multi-camera compositing and stereoscopic workflows, we are now taking on the unique challenges presented in developing high-quality, seamless VR experiences.

Day 1- Introduction to Virtual Reality, rigs, cameras, head mounted displays, live action vs real time vs pre-rendered, camera alignment using PTGui, creating a template, camera projection setup using Nuke, stitching, STMaps.

Day 2- Scene clean up techniques, color correction, patching and removing elements from the scene, integrating CG elements, plus we will take a look at CaraVR, the new plug-in designed to work within the industry-leading NUKE environment to enable the creation of high-quality virtual reality content. Improved calibration from multi-camera rigs, live connection to Oculus Rift, ray-trace rendering, spherical aware operations & viewing equirectangular images; making stitching, 360 & VR workflows a breeze.

This course is the first worldwide with CARA VR and will be delivered by The Foundry’s Certified Instructor – Mariana Acuña.

Mariana has been working in the entertainment industry since 2003, she graduated with honors in New Media, specializing afterwards in 3D animation and digital post-production to then go on to Gnomon School of Visual Effects to study VFX-Supervision and Compositing.

She is an active member of the VFX Society and has moderated the LA and NY chapters.

Working as an instructor since her college days beginning in experimental animation, then as full time faculty for the Art Institute of California-Hollywood, Nuke Trainer for Escape Studios, as well as online classes at CG-Workshops.

Mariana is the The Foundry’s Business Development Manager ANZ and does customized training for Pixar, Sony Playstation, Disney Animation, Legend Films, Rainmaker, & Rising Sun Pictures to name a few.

This course is for generalist or specialists who want to work in this expanding VR world.

Pre-Course Requirements:
You need little experience to attend this course.

Labspace supplies the computers, software and material required for the course.

The Foundry also has a non-commercial use and student licenses – great way to build your portfolio.
